Use case:
POC into AR and my idea was to create an interaction where users could identify a piece of hardware using their phone camera and get feedback on different cards they could insert into the slots. This would help scientists/engineers understand what testing tools they could use with the hardware.

Role:
Design Technologist

Technologies:
3D Studio Max, Unity, Vuforia

Outcome:
With a background in 3d I was able to procure a hardware CAD drawing of a piece of National Instruments hardware. I had to use 3D Studio max to remove a lot of the unnecessary model geometry and export the file in an fbx format. I imported the 3d model into unity and set up the vuforia back end. After adding the vuforia plugin and my tokens to unity I was able to start using the camera to target shapes, images, etc. I quickly realized the high poly count CAD model was going to be too heavy for a phone based app. I settled for some simple shapes to show when the camera targetd the NI Logo. For the POC I decided to use basic shapes in 3D Studio Max that would be triggered to show when a user would run my iOS app created in Unity. The app would successfully identify the NI logo, then display a box, particle emitter, and a tree stump.
